Le Tonkinois Bio Impression Linseed Oil Varnish Primer: 2.5 Liter
Clean old or dirty wood if needed with Linseed Oil Soap, rinse well, and allow to dry fully. Some light hand sanding may be required to address raised grain.
Work to avoid dust or other particles getting into the can or onto the wood surface before application. Vacuum and wipe down as needed to get the smoothest finish.
Do not shake the can.
Do not stir or thin the primer. Use as-is straight from the can.
Apply even coats with a brush or clean cloth/pad.
Typically, dry to the touch in 8 hrs with ideal 60+ degree ambient temperatures and with good air circulation.
Let dry at least 8 hours before applying Le Tonkinois Linseed Oil Varnish.
Avoid interactions with silicone – can inhibit adhesion of Linseed Oil Varnish.
Approximately 270 sq ft of coverage per 1 Liter (675 sq ft per 2.5 Liter can).
Le Tonkinois products are the only traditional finishes available at Earth+Flax that require the use of solvents for clean up.
We recommend a good quality gum turpentine. Conventional mineral spirits will also work.
Clean-up Suggestions:
-
Work your brush in a jar of natural gum turpentine or mineral spirits to break down the tung oil in the bristles. Work thoroughly into bristles making good contact down to the ferrule vs. just rinsing the bristles with solvent.
-
Wipe extra solvent out of the bristles and dispose of rag/paper towel appropriately. Then thoroughly clean the bristles with Linseed Oil Soap and warm water. Work soapy water into the brush to remove any residual residue.
-
Repeat as needed.
If this process seems to be a struggle, you can clean with solvents right away and then soak the bristles in Linseed Oil Soap and warm water overnight to see if that speeds up your cleaning process.
Brush must have most, if not all, varnish residue removed from bristles in order to avoid the bristles drying rigid.
