Made by Le Tonkinois, the Gelomat Additive is designed for the final coat of Linseed Oil Varnish to achieve a matte surface and tone down the natural shine/gloss of the finish.
Follow mixing directions and apply a relatively thin, even coat with a stiff bristle brush.
May slow dry time slightly. Ensure surface is fully dry before general use.
Gelomat Linseed Oil Varnish Matte Additive: 1/2 Liter.
Designed to be mixed with the high gloss Le Tonkinois Linseed Oil Varnish options to achieve a flatter finish. Add only to the final coat.
The ratio can be adjusted based on personal preference.
Mix Gelomat with Le Tonkinois 1:1 for a matte finish.
Mix Gelomat with Le Tonkinois a 1:2 for a satin finish.
Mix Gelomat with Le Tonkinois a 1:3 for a semi-gloss finish.
Mix well but do not whisk – avoid creating bubbles in your varnish can.
Apply a relatively thin, even coat. This final application may take a little longer to dry/cure then your previous coats of Le Tonkinois Linseed Oil Varnish.
Do a test sample to confirm your ratio preference before working on your larger project.
Le Tonkinois products are the only traditional finishes available at Earth+Flax that require the use of solvents for clean up.
We recommend a good quality gum turpentine. Conventional mineral spirits will also work.
Clean-up Suggestions:

Work your brush in a jar of natural gum turpentine or mineral spirits to break down the tung oil in the bristles. Work thoroughly into bristles making good contact down to the ferrule vs. just rinsing the bristles with solvent.

Wipe extra solvent out of the bristles and dispose of rag/paper towel appropriately. Then thoroughly clean the bristles with Linseed Oil Soap and warm water. Work soapy water into the brush to remove any residual residue.

Repeat as needed.
If this process seems to be a struggle, you can clean with solvents right away and then soak the bristles in Linseed Oil Soap and warm water overnight to see if that speeds up your cleaning process.
Brush must have most, if not all, varnish residue removed from bristles in order to avoid the bristles drying rigid.
